This is a Russian re-issue in a series of marvelous recordings by the monastic choir of Vatopedi Monastery on Mt. Athos. The singing is buoyant and joyful, lacking some of the lugubrious heaviness that plagues some Byzantine chant renditions. This is a rare opportunity to hear singing from the Holy Mountain, which relatively few men and no women are able to visit. Although the titles are given in both Russian and English, the majority of the booklet is in Russian only.
