The same superlative qualities that characterize the other recordings by the Male Choir of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Monastery Representation Church (in this catalog and elsewhere on our website) are applicable to this live recording of a Paschaltide concert given in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Impeccable intonation, ensemble, and sense of expressive measure, reveal oft-heard musical settings (such as Vedel's Paschal Canon) as well as relatively recent additions to the repertoire (e.g. Ledkovsky's Paschal Stichera "Let God Arise"), in a heretofore unimagined variety of choral timbres and colors. Listeners whose impressions of Russian men's choirs have been shaped by the Don Cossacks, the Red Army Chorus, and the Monks of Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, will discover a depth of expression and subtlety that they never thought was possible. Titles and an introductory article are in Russian and English.--V.M.
