Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev (1966-)

ALFEYEV, Metropolitan Hilarion (b. 24 July 1966 Moscow) studied composition at Moscow Gnessins School of Music and subsequently at the Moscow State Conservatory. In 1987 he was ordained a priest, in 2002 a bishop, and in 2009 an archbishop of the Russian Orthodox Church. He is the author of over 500 publications including 20 books. His musical compositions include the Divine Liturgy (2006), All-Night Vigil (2006) for choir a capella, the Christmas Oratorio (2007) and the choral-orchestral St. Matthew Passion (2008).
